Matador conquers Russian roads. Moscow – Vladivostok 2007.
After successful expeditions to Ukraine, Romania, Albania and etc. Matador takes part in an autocross “Scout Experience”, which way goes by Russian roads. Ten cars Škoda Octavia Scout tyred up into Matador MP 43 Aquilla Evo made their route from Moscow to Vladivostok during 04 - 20 of August 2007. Total distance is more than 9700 km. The cars crossed 7 time zones.
The expedition was held within a presentation of a new car to Russian market - Škoda Octavia Scout. The car is completed with 150 horsepower 2.0 FSI engine, 6-gear manual transmission, 4 wheel drive and universal type of car-body.
Scout Experience Route:
To give the driver complete feeling, the cars had not come trough any special technical treatment before the autocross started. The only one part, which had to be changed, was the tyres. It’s no mere a chance that the organizers chose Matador tyres as the official tyres of the autocross. The route laid trough the whole Russia. The participants were faced to various types of road surfaces and weather. Therefore, the organizers paid special attention to safety and comfort. The Matador’s contribution to the autocross was creating additional acoustic comfort and safety during the route.
Matador provided MP 43 Aquilla Evo, size 205/55 R16. This model is designed for high speed cars and their owner, who claims higher requirements to acoustic comfort and safety while driving at high speeds.
It was interesting to observe the hilly European parts of Russia, which slowly went up above the sea level, changed to rocky landscapes of Samara and mountains of Ural. The way trough Ural passed by a monument “the border between the Europe and Asia”, after which the way went
down to the Western-Siberian plat.
The road to Siberia delighted with asphalt and even “fresh” speed ways. The genuine road experience started on the way from Siberia to Vladivostok. In order to obtain a visual comparison “before-after” at the end of the autocross, the cars were not washed deliberately from the start. But while approaching the Baikal lake it became clear that after each 100 km a car wash meant just let the money go down the wind.
Thanks to worm reception from the journalists and partners of the autocross the expedition run lively. The main particularity of the autocross for Matador was that every participant was given a possibility to feel the tyres at asphalt and the road without pavement.
Besides, one could become sure in practical ability of the tyre tread to stand against aquaplaning on wet road.
Once a rack car track wedged in between the motorcade. While attempting to overtake, the rack car track suddenly stopped and we barely crushed into the left corner of the trailer at a high rate of speed. However, to our surprise we managed to escape the accident. And just after this we hear this voice from the radio set from the car behind us in the motorcade: “These tyres have an ability to stop, don’t they” There were many positive reports received from the participants regarding behavior of the tyres on the way. Particularly, the participants pointed out good handling and noticed absence of noise while moving. Because, the good tyres make their job without noise
