Tyler Workers OK Closure Plan

USW members at Goodyear ’s Tyler, Texas, tire plant have voted to allow the tiremaker to shutter the facility ahead of schedule. The vote late last week accepted Goodyear’s proposal to close down the plant in advance of the original Dec. 31 date.


The tiremaker has not announced when the plant would now close.

Since the closure announcement in November 2007, the plant has shifted production out and laid off workers. The remaining 60 or so workers at the plant have been offered buyout packages to allow the early closure.
